Basiri 's Testimony

Several years ago, Basili was a police officer in Moldova. He had become convinced of the truth of the Bible and of this precious Second Coming mission and wanted to be baptized as a Seventh-day Adventist.

When he told his family about this newfound faith, his father and mother disowned him, his brothers said they no longer considered him a brother, his wife Galina said she would divorce him, and his police chief said he would never have a Sabbath day off. His police chief said he would never give him Shabbat rest. Basiri simply opened his Bible and struggled through the scriptures, praying with God that God would give him direct answers to his prayers. What should he do? He opened his Bible. And by God's grace, his eyes were caught by the words of Matthew 10:35-38, where he was told how family can be our enemy and that if you love your father or mother more than Christ, you are not worthy of Him. Basili felt led to take Jesus' cross and heed His command to follow Him. Basili thanked God. He made up his mind. He went to the Seventh-day Adventist Church and was baptized.

When he told his wife that he had been baptized, she had already prepared the divorce papers. Basili was not instigated and told her he loved her. Believing they would support her opposition, Galina accompanied Basili to tell his family the news of his baptism. To her surprise, however, Basili's parents and siblings accepted his decision rather than oppose it.

Next, Basili went to his superior, a police officer, with a letter of resignation to explain that he had been baptized. The officer said, "What's that? Pull back and take a week off to think things over." A week later, Bassili returned and again submitted his resignation. Instead of accepting it, the chief promoted him so that Basili would have no Sabbath conflict.

Almost at this time, Basili's wife, Galina, had a serious problem with her job, where she was cashier. The day's totals did not add up, and the company told her she was responsible for the amount. In disappointment she asked Basili to pray for her and he invited her to pray with him about the problem. The next day, Galina found an accounting error for the exact same amount. Basili invited her to give her heart to God, who had answered their prayers, but she refused. Later, Galina's mother developed cancer, and Basili and Galina visited her and prayed for her. Through God's intervention, she was healed. Galina's heart softened and she went straight to the Seventh-day Adventist Church and was baptized.  Basili serves as the church treasurer.
